Enfield Memory Service
-
The Enfield Memory Service (EMS) provides specialist assessment, treatment and support to people, over the age of 65 years, referred by their GPs and acute hospital liaison services, who are experiencing memory problems.
The service consists of a Multidisciplinary Team and provides comprehensive assessment, and a range of interventions depending on the outcome of assessment and diagnosis. These include, medications, psycho-educational groups including cognitive stimulation therapy (CST), and Memory Navigation from Age UK. EMS works closely with families and carers to offer information and support, including post diagnostic carers groups facilitated by an Admiral Nurse.
The service has close links with the Older People’s Community Mental Health Team and Older People’s Psychology Service in Enfield.

How to access this service
Referrals are received from GPs via the Enfield Assessment Service or acute hospital liaison services. We will need the results of blood tests, arranged by the GP with the referral. This is to help identify any possible physical causes which may be contributing to a memory problem.
Who is this service for?
People, aged 65 years and over, referred by their GP and experiencing memory problems.
We also assist people, under the age of 65, who have already received a diagnosis of dementia to access local care and support.
What to expect
Once a referral is accepted, we offer an assessment appointment, which can take up to two hours. Where possible, we ask that the referred person attends with a relative or friend or someone who knows them well.
We may also refer for a head scan, either an MRI or CT scan at Chase Farm Hospital. At the end of the assessment, we will feedback and discuss a care plan/treatment options as appropriate, typically a follow up appointment will then be offered at which time investigation results, clinical impression and treatment and support will be discussed.
We will write to the referring GP following assessment and any subsequent appointments.
