Camden Mental Health Day Support Service launches in Kentish Town

The Camden Mental Health Day Support Service (CMHDS), for adults with long-term mental health needs. was officially opened by Councillor Anna Wright, Camden’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care at the Greenwood Centre in Kentish Town on Wednesday 31 July.

The CMHDS brings together health and social care day support services and offers three levels of support:

  • ‘Intensive Day Support’, providing up to 8-weeks high level support. Coordinated by an NHS team, offering a clinically led program of interventions to support recovery.
  • ‘Reablement Day Support’, providing medium levels of support for up to 12-weeks - focusing on coping techniques and a self-help approach promoting social inclusion, building self-esteem and goal setting.
  • ‘Recovery Day Support’, longer-term support of up to 18-months - managing symptoms and learning techniques for recovery and self-care.

Engagement and co-design events held in summer 2023 and an information session in January 2024, informed the redesign of the service and helped to better understand the mental health support needs of service users.

Councillor Anna Wright, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care, said: “We are committed to improving mental health services in Camden and ensuring the best possible support is available for those who need it. I’m delighted that we’ve opened this improved day service which we’ve redesigned alongside the North London Mental Health Partnership and communities, to ensure this service meets residents’ needs and will be better connected to other local community and voluntary mental health services.”

Cherise Thompson, Camden Operations Director, NLMHP welcomed the service development: “By working closely with Camden Council, and our other local authorities, we can create a stronger and healthier community and support one another to ensure we provide the very best mental health services. The new day service brings intensive, reablement and recovery care together under one roof. Having a single point of access will help us to provide improved care and support to our service users.”

Drew Jensen who has lived experience of Camden’s mental health services said: “The Greenwood Centre is a modern and well-established facility in the heart of Kentish Town.  By basing the redesigned day service here, it will make it easier for people to access the care and support they need.”
