Service User and Carer Involvement

At North London NHS Foundation Trust our strategy sets out a clear purpose and vision which we can only achieve by ensuring that the service users and their carers are involved and at the heart of everything we do.

  • Our Purpose: Working with our communities to improve mental health
  • Our Vision: Better Mental Health. Better Lives. Better Communities

When we talk about service users we are referring to the people/patients who access our services.  When we talk about carers we are referring to the family and friends of our service users, those who provide unpaid care and support to them.
Sharing your experiences, knowledge and ideas allows us to understand how we can improve things, where things are working well or not so well.  We need you to be part of helping us think about creating solutions and improved ways of working.

How you can get involved

We have an Involvement Register which you can sign up to via this link or by contacting the Service User and Carer Involvement and Engagement Team (see below for contact details). You can find more information in our  Involvement Register Leaflet .[docx] 167KB

The Trust’s Involvement Register is a confidential list of our current or former service users and carers who would like to get involved with activities and projects at the Trust as Service User or Carer Representatives.

People who join the register will receive communications from us about opportunities to get involved and information and activities they may be interested in.

What’s in it for you?

  • It can provide a sense purpose and help to build confidence.
  • It can help people feel like an equal partner in care, decision making and gain influence within the Trust and its services.
  • It’s a way to develop skills or experience or use existing skills or experience to help others and improve services.
  • It’s a way to meet new people, make friends, build communities and support networks.
  • It’s a way to have their voice heard, contribute or give something back.
  • It can be a pathway into volunteering, work or careers like peer support work.
  • Reward and recognition for their contributions, e.g. thanks, training, payment
