As Black History Month draws to a close for another year, we would like to share an amazing tribute to the men and women from the Caribbean who contributed so much to the World War II effort.
Filmed by colleagues from our Veterans’ Group, this video details the sacrifices made by 6,000 men and women who signed up to become pilots, engineers and ground crew.
On their return after the war to the Caribbean, many could not settle, nor find work back home and subsequently returned to the UK. Historian Maureen Dickson, who has written the book ‘Pilots and Soldiers of the Caribbean’ based on their stories, talks to Sean (Johnno) Johnson, about the inspirational example of this group of individuals, many of whom went on to have incredible lives.
